Members![]() Professor John Martin. FRCIP, FESC, FMedSci Professor John Martin. FRCIP, FESC, FMedSci British Heart Foundation, Professor of Cardiovascular Science, University College London, Honorary Consultant Physician, UCL Hospital Trust. John Martin studied philosophy in Spain before qualifying from Sheffield University Medical School in 1973. He became a senior lecturer at Melbourne University, Australia where he began his research into platelet formation. In 1986 he set up a unique arrangement combining an academic clinical career, at King's College School of Medicine, with the post of Head of Cardiovascular Research at the Wellcome Foundation Research Laboratories. In 1990 he became the British Heart Foundation Professor of Cardiovascular Science and moved this Chair to UCL in 1996. He now directs the Centre. He He served on the Home Office Animal Procedures Committee from 1998 to 2006. He is Chairman of the British Collaborative on Stem Cells and Repair of the Heart, and the ESC Task Force on Stem Cells in the Heart. See also Cardiovascular Chairs. Hunterian Professor by the Royal College of Surgeons of England, and Consultant Surgeon to St Bartholomew's Hospital, London. In 1981 he was invited to form the Breast Unit at St Bartholomew's Hospital. He was appointed Surgical Assessor to the National Breast Screening Programme in 1988. In 1991 he established the Breast Clinic at 108 Harley Street and in 1996 founded the London Breast Clinic. The London Breast Clinic is a dedicated Breast Clinic established on the guidelines set down in the Government's Calman Report 'A Policy Framework for Commissioning Cancer Services' in 1995. |
