Dr Jeremy George
Consultant Respiratory Physician,
The London Thoracic Group and University College Hospital
Dr George's speciality is molecular approaches to improve early diagnosis and treatment of lung cancers. The London Thoracic Group has a large programme improving clinical management and developing new therapeutic approaches in patients with various forms of lung cancer. In the laboratory they have fundamental research programmes examining the pathogenesis of lung
tumours.
The emphasis of the current research is on the role of the extracellular matrix (ECM), their receptors, integrins and autocrine growth factors in the regulation of tumour cell growth. To better treat patients suffering with lung cancer, bronchial ultrasound is also being developed to
facilitate photodynamic therapy. Ultrasound probes are now small enough to be passed through the bronchoscope and used to map the extent of tumour surrounding the bronchus.
Finally in collaboration with Professor Rabbits they are developing new molecular approaches to allow early diagnosis of lung cancer. |
